Technology
Cliff Meyers owner of We Fix Em said in his sales manager moment “a good referral for me is someone that is spending money on technology, but wants to make money on technology.†When he said that I remember thinking I am a contractor I don’t want or need to make money on technology. I always had the oldest phone and computer not the newest and best.
Then I went to my wife’s uncle’s funeral. That’s where I met her beloved aunt, Jack’s sister, Carmen. “Aunt Carmenâ€, Keira, my wife affectionately called her. I immediately fell in love with my new 90 year old aunt. She read us letters sent to her by Keira’s dad Richard and Uncle Jack while serving in World War II, The Korean war and Vietnam.
The letters were heart felt and spoke of the times they were together. The letters spoke of the fear and the danger the men felt. They expressed how they longed to see their beloved sister. The men thanked Carmen for tending to their domestic chores.
Carman, never marrying, told us how her nephews, nieces and great nephews and great nieces never wrote or called. Keira and I talked to her about Facebook, cellphones and emails. Aunt Carman rung her 90 year old arthritic hands and said “after working for Zenith and hovering over a type writer for 40 years she would not be stuck to a computer.â€
Trying to talk with Aunt Carman about technology, I thought of Cliff. I decided I did not want to be “left in the dark†and that I would always take advantage of technology! The moment I got home I called Cliff. I set an appointment and I “through myself into technology!â€
Cliff taught and shared with me some systems that I could set into place and by eliminating steps, become more efficient, save money and in the long run actually start to profit from technology. I signed a contract with him, and allowed and trusted him to take complete control of what seemed to be my whole life, my cellphone, my computer, my emails, printer, and website and create new systems for me.
The systems he put in place allowed me to connect with my customers, sub-contractors and network partners so much better. With a seamless system I was able to serve more clients, communicate with my partners and actually make more money by creating more billable service that created more sales and more profit and fewer expenses.
Cliff always asks “are you working on your business or are you working in your business.†He asks “are you doing what you make money at or you doing something you are not qualified to do?†He asks “are you mowing your own lawn?â€
