Your comfort zone
You don’t have to be chased by a lion to run, you can run on a tread mill. You don’t have to be in a financial crises to exercise good money management habits. You don’t have to be obese to lose weight and eat healthy and exercise.
Most people wait until their life is in a crises before they do what they know they should. Most people get comfortable or live in their comfort zone. I say get comfortable with being uncomfortable. I heard a saying ‘no pressure, no diamonds.â€
Some people have no pressure. Like is “okâ€, it is not great, it is Ok. We need to put pressure on ourselves to move from ok to great! Ask yourself “what is the one main area I know I need to improve my life on?†Something you are not doing and you know you should be doing. Is it losing weight? Is it making more money and investing it for your future? Is it working harder on projects and learning new skills to increase your productivity and income? “Learners are earners!†‘Leaders are readers!â€
Whatever it is “ask yourself, “Why don’t I do what I know I ought to do?†What pain do you associate with doing what you should be doing? If it is working out maybe the pain of doing it is the time it takes to do it, or maybe it is the physical pain of working out. Maybe it is the fear of failure, for you have failed many times so far.
If it is quitting smoking maybe the pain of cold turkey is hindering you from quitting. Both, the actions that you need to do but aren’t and the pain associated with doing them need to be identified. You need to be aware what you are not doing what you know you should do and you need to know why you choose not to do it.
Change is impossible without acknowledgement. We need to live life on purpose and in the now. We can and must not stay comfortable in a state of denial. We must arrest ourselves and ask the hard questions; where will I be in a year from now if I don’t change, five years, ten years, where will I be in twenty years if I don’t start doing the things I know I should be doing?
We won’t change until the pain of not doing it is worse than the pain of doing it. We don’t have to wait until the pain of not doing it is real and a reality. In our mind and in our imagination and through our faith we can take ourselves into the future and see what our lives will look like if we do not change. We can also in our mind take us into the future and see how our lives will look like when we do make the changes we need.
You might have to say no to something to start saying yes to the thing you should be doing. Don’t spend your energy on a thing that does not help you reach your true potential. What is your true calling, your purpose, what is your race to run? The race that can only be run by you? What is your true higher self? What is your potential?
Once you know these you can start saying yes to the actions and tasks that you should being saying yes to in order for your actions, time and energy to serve your most highest good! Once you say yes to the actions you should be doing that line up with your one true calling, growing out of your comfort zone will be easy!
What was once hard is now easy. What was once impossible is now possible! Don’t stop there though keep going, keep growing. Do the next impossible thing, the next difficult thing until it becomes easy, then push further?
Be like the Apostle Paul and “press on to the mark of the highest calling!†Never get comfortable, never get complacent and always be growing! No pressure, no diamonds. You have to put pressure on yourself. Nature won’t do it until it is too late. Life will not do it until it’s too late.
Your own truer self-whispers to you to change, to do the thing you must do. You must do it. You must push yourself until you do it. Don’t wait until you have diabetes to get healthy. Don’t wait until you have COPD to quit smoking. Don’t wait until you’re bankrupt for you start managing your money. Don’t wait until you’re fired to start working harder. Don’t wait until your relationship is irreconcilable to give it importance.
The formula to success will be simple and easy but the tasks will be hard. You will learn to love hard work. Be your own pressure, create your own diamonds with the greatness within you!
